Barksdale Manor

This magnificent home was built around 1838 by the Colley family. In 1900 Mr. Barksdale married one of the Colley daughters and purchased this home. The home was remodeled in 1909 to the Gothic style it is today. The home sits on two beautiful acres, surrounded by magnolia trees, some of the most beautiful plantings in the city of Washington, and some of the oldest camellias in Washington are on this property. The entire home has been restored including the original floors. When you enter, you will see a magnificent chandelier from Christie’s of New York. The green parlor on the left has furniture from the 1800s as well as the red parlor on the right, which also includes a Yamaha piano.Over the last almost 200 years, several of the Colley/Barksdale ladies who have resided in this home have hosted many piano recitals. They were piano teachers in Washington and musicians in the Methodist Church, noted to be some of the most outstanding musicians in the state of Georgia. One of the current owners has also been a Methodist musician for 44 years.
